Alfred Cleveland Weed (1881–1953) was an assistant curator at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago from 1921 to the 1930s. Although he was mainly associated with ichthyology, he also published in herpetology. He was later on the ichthyology staff at the National Museum of Natural History. The tests using toads were faster than those employing mammals; the toads were easier to raise, and, although the initial 1948 discovery employed Bufo arenarum for the tests, it soon became clear that a variety of anuran species were suitable, including the cane toad. As a result, toads were employed in this task for around 20 years. Forty-four species of herpetiles had been identified from the study area. The collected specimens were preserved and are available in Pakistan Museum of Natural History, Islamabad. Field studies were scheduled to commence in December 1993. A major component of this project will be the use of GIS and remote sensing to model the dynamics of fragmentation, to assess the efficacy of existingprotected area networks in conserving herpetofauna, and to suggest measures which would enhance the efficacy of these networks. In the past, malformed frogs were rarely found in Minnesota. Only 0.2 percent of 2,433 frog specimens collected in Minnesota during 1958-63 that are archived at the Bell Museum of Natural History at the University of Minnesota were malformed (Hoppe, 2000). Another 0.5 percent were abnormal due to predator attacks. Frog Frog (frŏg), n. [AS. Froggu, frocga a frog (in sensel); akin to D. Vorsch, OHG. Frosk, G. Frosch, Icel. Froskr, fraukr, Sw. & Dan.
